One of the most anecdotal moments of the season that ends was undoubtedly the return to the big races of thoroughbred racehorse training legend D. Wayne Lukas.
After having in his stable such legends as Landaluce, Lady’s Secret, Winning Colors or Serena’s Song, among others. In 2022, Secret Oath took the baton and with impressive performances where he wasted his running class, he managed to bring the veteran trainer of 85 back to the spotlight, after years clinging to his profession, in which he himself says he learns something new every day.
With the faith of a young man in his 20s, Lukas’ age is a mere numerical fact, which only manifests itself in the occasional physical ailment, because the hope of training a new champion is still intact in his day-to-day life.
With Secret Oath, he proved, as Travis Stone shouted to the four winds at Churchill Downs when he crossed the finish line winning the Kentucky Oaks, «Wayne can still train».
Long live old cowboy Darren!
